USA West Coast Alumni meet - 18 September 2011
Event Narration and Details ![]() Two more days to go
Photo collage of past two events (2009 and 2010) were displayed at the registration desk. Also displayed were screenshots of ietalumani.org, and recent pictures (including room assigned to IET alumni) from IET, which were shared by Hariom Sharma (General Secretary of association). Special thanks to Sajal Agarwal (IT-2005), and Anupam Rai (EC-1995) for securing the picnic site and setting up the registration desk. An innovative game using Hindi Lokoktiyan, started right with the registration. This game paired up two IETian from different batches, who introduces each other after the lunch, and shared their unforgettable experience in IET, song, or joke etc. Reena Goel (EC-1992) talked about her non-profit social organization, Small Step Foundation, dedicated for education of poor girls in India. Pictures IETians were seen mingling across distant batches with so much ease and enjoying as if they were a IET hostel. Nishank Trivedi (EE-1999) volunteered for food arrangement. Desi Pizza was super hit among all IETians. Official photographer Ruchi Gupta (EC-1996) captured these unforgettable moments. Finally, thanks to Harish Kandpal (EC-1994), Ruchi Gupta (EC-1996) and Nishank Trivedi (EE-1999) who volunteered not only to organize but also to plan the event. With this event we are seeing more IETians are coming forward to contribute their effort and time. - Ruby Goel (CS-1991), and Kaushal Varshney (EE-1993) What’s Next ? In last two years (June'2009 thru Sept'2011), by organizing monthly mixers, quarterly working lunch and three family picnics, at least we have been able to mobilize and connect many IETians in North California. Now it is time to formalize it with indoor event, outsource as much as possible, and distribute various parts of organizing tasks to larger batches; and communicate via batch-representatives. Following are suggestions from volunteers, and IETians who have attended most of these events: 1. Make it a semi-formal evening event (Saturday is best option) 2. Payment in advance - could be paypal or give it to volunteers (maybe one from each batch etc.) 3. Talent show/dance/DJ(homegrown)/karaoke to make it attractive not only for IETians but their spouses and kids. 4. Feb/March sounds good and preferably in 2/3 weeks time frame of a festival - people tend to be in festive mood. 5. Community hall or restaurants party halls - so no worries for food and snacks catering and pickup etc. 6. For kids we can get face painting kits, arts and crafts, puzzles to keep them busy. 7. Make it bi-annual event, and distribute small tasks to batches via batch-reps Dear friends, it is your event, and we call upon all batches to participate with full energy, and talk with your batchmates for volunteering. Look forward for next events: 1. Formal dinner in Feb-2012, 2. Summer picnic Sept-2012 Please do provide your feedback and suggestion to ietalumni.northca@gmail.com |
